This is a newsletter on what I think is newsworthy and noteworthy in the fintech space. This newsletter goes out once a week (usually on Friday’s.)
We also run a vibrant Slack channel, known as the FTT Slack. It’s another tier and invite-only. Unfortunately we’re not taking new members at this time.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me a note at firstname.lastname@example.org!
My name is Ian Kar, and I’ve been in and around the fintech space for 4 plus years.
First, I was reporter covering fintech for a number of publications, including Quartz and Bank Innovation. I broke a number of major industry stories, including the discounted transaction rate Apple negotiated with financial institutions for Apple Pay, developments in the blockchain space, product developments at Uber and Venmo, and major funding rounds.
As a product manager at Acorns, a microinvesting app with 5 million downloads, I was the product owner for “Grow,” an in-app financial education product. Leveraging my 3.5 years of experience as a reporter, I used my knowledge of the fintech & consumer tech landscape to develop a product that catered to our millennial audience, and worked with stakeholders, designers, engineers, and a content team to delivery the best product to our customers.
I've also interviewed experts in the fintech industry, including the Federal Reserve and New York Department of Financial Services, US Treasury Secretary Larry Summer, and Union Square Ventures' Fred Wilson, execs from top global banks, and CEO's from some of the largest and most well-funded startups in the technology industry.
I've written for a number of publications and have been cited by a number of news outlets, including Vogue, Vanity Fair, Bloomberg Businessweek, Re/Code, The Information, CNBC, TechCrunch, Barrons, ABC News, TIME, and groups like NASDAQ, Morgan Stanley analyst notes, and Stanford Law and Business School. In addition, I've been a guest on radio and television programs to discuss my work.
